The Cass Technical High School Marching Band Productions Inc. began in 1990 under the direction of Ms. Sharon Allen, graduate of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio and Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
The band is called the Cass Technical High School Marching Band Productions Inc. because of the foundation and structure being patterned after the corporate world. It is the collective responsibility of the members of the articulation committee to assist the band directress with the operations of the band. The articulation committee consists of the following people: the president who receives direct instructions from the directress; the vice president who is responsible for the hands on tasks of seeing that the directions are followed, executed, and correctly administered; the secretaries who maintain the band’s calendar of events, band rosters, birthdays of band members, and updates the annual application; treasurer who’s job is to maintain funding, costs and other monies; two historians whose responsibilities are to maintain the history of the band sections, recording names, locations of performances and rosters of participants at each performance; and last but not least the sergeant- at –arms and the parliamentarians who maintain order and peacefulness. The band also consists of managers, two service representatives and each section has a librarian.
The C.T.M.B. has traveled all over the United States to colleges and universities, exciting and delighting audiences. We have traveled to Jackson State University in Mississippi, Tennessee State University in Nashville, Hampton University in Virginia, Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade, and our latest achievement the FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida this past January of 2008. The band has performed for the past three mayors of the city of Detroit and for the former two governors of the state of Michigan.
